For those who need speedy storage in tight spaces, the Corsair MP700 Micro SSD is a tiny internal SSD. Where others may target the big desktop builds, this drive is clearly aimed at smaller devices. The Corsair MP700 Micro SSD is designed to be tiny. It's in the M.2 2230 format — that's a lot shorter than the popular 2280 drives we usually see. As a result, it easily slots into devices where larger SSDs just won't fit.
The build quality feels solid. Despite its small size, the SSD doesn’t seem fragile or cheaply made. The PCBA is clean, and the chips are routed correctly. Cost-cutting measure: Corsair left out the trim and extras to maintain compatibility with more devices.
This SSD doesn’t have an oversized heatsink. This is not a downside. For many small-form-factor products, there is insufficient space for bulky cooling solutions. Instead, Corsair has dedicated itself to thoughtful power and heat management, which plays better with small systems.
Performance-wise, the Corsair MP700 does rather well. Not only is it PCIe Gen 5-enabled, but it’s also faster than most Gen 4 SSDs, particularly in read speeds.
The system feels faster in day-to-day use. Apps open faster, files transfer quicker, and the whole experience feels slick. For gaming, load times are quicker, and games start up faster than on previous generations of SSDs.
As with most high-speed SSDs, the drives use an SLC cache to achieve their maximum write speeds. Write speed can decrease if large files are written directly while the cache is full. But for everyday tasks like gaming, software installation, and importing regular files, this isn’t a big deal by any means.
In gaming, the MP700 Micro performs well, especially on handheld gaming PCs. Games load more quickly, and accessing information within them is quick. This enhances the gaming experience, particularly on less powerful devices.
This SSD feels solid in real-world use. Both installs, updates, and daily tasks are done lightning-fast. If you use a compact system for work or light gaming (such as the Alienware Alpha), this SSD will help keep things going smoothly.
Even those who create content on small laptops or mini PCs can benefit, primarily if you work with large files or projects.


Heat is always a consideration with PCIe Gen 5 SSDs, and Corsair has addressed it responsibly here. And the MP700 Micro doesn't drive thermals to insane levels.
The SSD is within a safe temperature range during everyday use. Some thermal throttling occurs under prolonged, heavy workloads, but it's gradual and deliberate. That helps safeguard the drive and keep it steadier over time.
Another case where the thermal behaviour is ideal is for a small system with low airflow.
Power efficiency is another major strength of the MP700 Micro. It doesn’t suck up a ton of power, even at high speeds. This also makes it battery-friendly, which collapses rail space, making it suitable for small devices like handheld PCs and thin laptops.
Lower power usage also means less heat. The system remains stable, and battery life isn't compromised as much as with power-hungry SSDs.
This is an SSD for those with a PCIe Gen 5 compatible system. It’s also compatible with PCIe Gen 4 slots, though the interface will cap speeds.
Being M.2 2230 size, not all desktop motherboards will support it out of the gate. Buyers should confirm that the device is compatible with the motherboard and meets the minimum system requirements.
