Lian Li's high-end 1200W PSU for powerful gaming systems and even some workstation builds. It features a full modular design and complies with the ATX 3.1 standard. It also includes the latest 12V-2x6 connector for newer graphics cards.

But the RS1200G is more than just another high-wattage PSU. The largest design element is the rotatable AC power inlet. It also lets you orient the modular connectors in various ways for easier cable routing in compatible cases (where the PSUs are mounted with their fans facing down). It also includes a magnetic RS Hub. We will analyse its design, build quality, performance, cooling, power efficiency, and real-life features. Our Tech Atlantix team rates this highly and we will also discuss its strengths and weaknesses.

Design and Build Quality

Lian Li RS1200GBS3 1200W PSU — A little bit compact for a 1200W PSU. It’s 150mm long, which is quite long considering how much power it can pump out. It is a nice matte finish with SECC material used in the chassis. This gives it a premium feel, without looking gaudy.

The more notable example is the rotatable AC inlet. Lian Li even lets you rotate the power input instead of keeping it in one spot. This gives builders the option to change how the wires exit the PSU. This is very helpful when space behind the motherboard or around the PSU is limited.

The RS1200G just entered the mix and adds magnetic cable organisers and cable combs. These little things might not sound like big deals, but they do make a cleaner install. Also included is the RS Hub, which adds another feature we find useful today.

Related: One caveat — and it's a big one. Because of the weird way the connectors are arranged, it won't work in every PC case. The 24-pin cable especially needs appropriate routing space. So it's a good measure to verify your case before buying this PSU.

Performance

The RS1200G shines in performance. Total output is 1200W, and it offers full 1200W on the +12V rail. This renders it appropriate for high-end graphics cards and demanding CPUs alike.

Here, independent tests also confirmed solid voltage regulation and ripple suppression. The 12V rail regulation was only 0.9% at the maximum load, and maximum ripple was high at 26mV, as measured by Tom's Hardware. These are solid results for a 1200W PSU.

On top of that, the PSU is designed for ATX 3.1 and supports power transients that modern graphics cards demand. Another benefit is the 12V-2x6 connector. This lets users of a new super-high-end gaming PC add power from newer GPUs.

Thermal Management

A 135mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing fan cools the RS1200G. It can also operate in fanless mode. This way, the fan will not turn on for light workloads, which helps keep the PSU silent at idle and low-power computing tasks.

Under heavy loads, things change. Testing revealed a much more lively fan as power draw rose. However, as a 1500W PSU, it can get relatively loud under full load. Additionally, testing at 45 ° C indicated some thermal stress when running at full power. Since the cooling system is up to the job, users running a 1200W system at high loads should ensure their PC case has sufficient airflow.

Efficiency

The RS1200G is a PSU with an official 80 PLUS Gold Rating, but its real-world efficiency testing is even more intriguing. At the load range tested by Tom's Hardware, average efficiency was around 90% at 115V and just over 92% at 230V. Cybenetics also gave it a Platinum efficiency rating.

Consequently, this results in less waste heat from the PSU during regular use. That helps high-end, graphics-heavy systems keep running for a long time while gaming or rendering content. Cybenetics testing also showed average efficiency above 89% at 115V and over 91% at 230V, depending on the test condition.

Power Consumption and Protection

The RS1200G comes with an all-encompassing set of protection features. These protective features include over-current, over-voltage, over-temperature, over-power, short-circuit, and under-voltage protection. This provides an extra layer of safety for expensive computer parts. Since its cables are fully modular, you only connect the ones your system needs. This helps reduce cable clutter and promotes better airflow in the case.

Final Verdict

Quite frankly, this was an excellent high-end PSU scored by the Lian Li RS1200G. Combining 1200 W ATX 3.1 support, exceptional electrical performance & modern GPU connectivity, it also offers a unique cable-management concept. The standout feature is its rotatable AC inlet, which may ease a challenging PC build. The magnetic RS Hub, a dedicated cable-management solution, also makes sense.

The RS1200G isn't without its flaws, though. CPU compatibility is extremely case-dependent, and noise can rise excessively when the PSU is pushed hard. However, the RS1200G is a powerful new challenger in the high-end gaming PC or workstation market. For reassuring power quality and some truly novel cable-management options, this PSU deserves your serious attention.
